Gwendolyn Swaringin Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 28, 2025.
Gwendolyn Kay Swaringin, affectionately known as Gwen to all who knew her, embarked on her final journey on October 27, 2025, in the same town where she first greeted the world: San Angelo, Texas. Born on December 27, 1954, Gwen's life was a tapestry of love, kindness, and enduring spirit that touched the lives of many.
Gwen's life was a testament to the power of love and family. Her beloved husband, Jim Swaringin, stood by her side in a partnership that was a beacon of devotion. Together, they raised a family that included their daughter, Jennifer Kitten, granddaughters Macy and Shayla Kitten, and their other cherished children, Sonja and Doug Crownover, whose family extended to Deann and Bernard Mcadoo, Oscar and Amy Favila, and Austin and Rachel Crownover. Gwen also embraced the joys of being a part of Crystal and Heydon Martin's lives, adoring their daughters Lilian and Mikayla Martin, as well as Tisha and Byron Byrd's daughter Caelin Davis. Wayne Swaringin, and his children Stephen and Raegan Swaringin, joined by Brittney Fay, Stephanie and Andrew Perez, Brooke and Spencer Harding, and Bethany Swaringin. Her niece and nephew, Stephanie Chan (Callahan) and Jared Callahan, along with numerous great-grandchildren, completed the circle of her immediate family, each a shining star in Gwen's constellation.
Gwen's professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. For 32 years, she was a valued team member at Ethicon, where she not only contributed her skills but also her warmth and generosity until her retirement in 2008.
Gwen's interests reflected her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. A "military brat" who had seen much of the world, she chose to anchor her heart in her hometown of San Angelo, where she relished the joy of being surrounded by her beloved cats, immersing herself in the pages of a good book, delighting in her favorite shows, and most of all, playing with her grandchildren. Her moniker "Aunt Kitty" was a badge of honor, lovingly bestowed upon her by the children in her life who cherished her playful spirit.
To describe Gwen is to speak of love, selflessness, and kindness. These words are not mere adjectives but the essence of a life well-lived. She was the embodiment of love in action, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness was her superpower, quietly lifting up those around her without ever seeking the spotlight. Gwen's kindness was legendary, a gentle force that healed hearts and brought smiles to faces even on the cloudiest of days.
Today, we celebrate Gwen-a woman whose life was a masterclass in love, a soul who taught us the beauty of selflessness, and a spirit that will forever inspire kindness. Her legacy is not etched in stone but carried in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Gwendolyn Kay Swaringin's story does not end here; it continues in every act of love and every moment of kindness she inspired. Let us honor her memory by living as she did-with open hearts, generous hands, and boundless love.
