Frederick Parsons Obituary

PARSONS, MR. FREDERICK D. Ludington Frederick D. Parsons, age 81, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 in Grand Haven. He was born October 9, 1921 to Clinton Amos and Mollie (Beatty) Parsons and was raised in farming in Summit Township, south of Ludington. He was married to Bettie Mae Woebbeking May 25, 1941 and she preceded him in death. He was the owner operator of Parsons Excavating for many years. Prior to that he worked many years as a bulldozer operator for Towns Construction. As a young man, he worked on the car ferries as a merchant seaman. Fred was well known to many farmers, contractors, and landscapers, and helped build a golf course and the Ludington Consumers Power Plant. He was disabled at age 49 and his interests in later years included C.B. radio, hooking rugs, smoking fish, cooking, canning and being visited by many friends and relatives. He was a devoted father and family man. Uncle Fred and Aunt Bettie were known by legions of children and almost raised more neighborhood children than their own. He will be sadly missed. He was proud of his status as a 46 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Fred is survived by father-in-law, Theodore Woebbeking of Ludington; son, Lon Frederick Parsons of Fort Pierce, FL; daughters, Carolyn (Ron) Rollins of Grand Haven and Patricia Vorac of Muskegon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Edward Jr., Dale, Todd, Jeff, Kellynn, Kaylene, Kathlene; great-grandchildren Alex, Adam, Edward III, Jordan, Madison, Jana, Reagan, Mason, Jordyn, Braden, Mollie, Carsyn; sisters, Mercein Seymour, Isabelle McDonald; brother, Leonard; sister-in-law, Georgia Parsons; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a a brother, Frank; sister, Luella; and granddaughter, KariLynn Vorac. Funeral Services for Frederick Parsons are scheduled for 1:00 PM Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Dorrell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Boehne of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of service. Contributions in Fred's memory may be directed to the American Heart Association or the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
