Hal Norman Bresock, born January 26, 1929, in Kaysville, Utah, passed away on February 5, 2025. Growing up during the Great Depression, Hal began life in humble circumstances and developed a strong work ethic and a heart for helping others. Throughout his life, he made many sacrifices to support his family and countless acquaintances who were down on their luck. Whether it was providing a place to stay for someone in need, helping someone find and fix a cheap car, or quietly slipping generous amounts of money into the pockets of others, Hal always found a way to support those around him.
Despite having only completed the 8th grade and never serving an LDS mission in his youth, Hal sacrificed to help fund the missions and college degrees of many of his children and grandchildren. Hal worked in a variety of trades, including as a lumberjack, miner, mechanic, landlord, and Merchant Marine, where he spent 20 years sailing the world. A proud Korean War veteran, Hal was committed to his country and his faith, generously giving his time and resources to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life.
Hal met his wife, Lorna McDonald Livingston, in 1958, and they raised four children in Stockton, California. During their time there, they served in various church callings, including as missionaries in the California, Sacramento Mission. After retiring to the countryside in Floyd, Virginia, Hal and Lorna later moved back to Salt Lake City when Lorna's health declined. Following Lorna's passing in 2008, Hal continued to serve and support his family, using his many talents to bless their homes. He found great joy in spending time with his loved ones and had a special fondness for a good buffet, a medium-rare steak, and a neatly kept yard.
Hal is survived by his children: Helena (Lemon), Ruth (Dodson), Leland, and Laura (Thomas); 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorna, his parents, siblings, and two grandchildren. His family finds comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his loved ones and will continue to watch over them.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah. A viewing will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service with military honors will take place following the services at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor Hal's legacy and support veterans who have sacrificed so much. Donations can be made at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
