Hallie Ray Hall

“Miss Hallie” isn’t here. She’s gone to be with Jesus.

Hallie Porter Ray Hall quietly passed away early in the morning of Saturday, August 23, 2025. She was a patient at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Va. On August 19, she had taken a fall at home and injured her knee. She was unable to stand or apply any pressure to her injured knee, so she was transported to the hospital for evaluation. X-rays showed there were no broken bones, however, they were inconclusive to the extent of her injury. The hospital kept Hallie until they could perform an MRI to get more detail of her injury before turning her over to Orthopedics for physical therapy, however, before the results of the MRI and anything could be put in place, Jesus came and took her home. The angels rejoiced at her arrival as we face heartbreak and sorrow. We have lost our mom, our constant source of love and joy. We grieve her loss.

She was a wonderful, Christian lady who was universally loved. Proverbs 31:10-31 describe her perfectly. She was a wise, capable, virtuous woman who was known and respected for her hard work, kindness and reverence for the Lord. She was energetic, resourceful and worked diligently with her hands. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, great grandmother, daughter, sister, friend who provided for her family and extended help to the poor and needy. Her household thrived, her husband was well-respected, and her children rise and call her blessed.

She was born on October 16, 1931, to Alfonso and wife, Daisy Hales Ray in Pearce’s Mill, Cumberland County, NC. She attended Massey Hill High School where in 1947 she loved being in Miss Frances Higgins’ class.

After his return home from honorably serving in the U.S. Marines, Pacific Theatre, during World War II, she married the love of her life Ed Thaggard Hall on November 10, 1951. Her sister Ruth Ray Jackson was her matron of honor with the Reverend Frederick A. Nordan officiating.

The couple made their home in Fayetteville and eventually moved to The Hall Farm on Murchison Road in Fayetteville. Ed and his father, Roland Hall, operated a pig and chicken farm and sold eggs and pork to neighbors and local businesses in the Fayetteville area. This business was successful until they decided to downsize and sell the farm in 1973. Hallie and Ed moved to their new home in College Lakes. She lived and enjoyed her home in College Lakes until she decided to sell her home and move to Richmond, Virginia in September 2021. There she happily lived with her youngest son Ricky Hall, his wife Kathy and her two grand dogs Betty and Birdee until her passing.

Miss Hallie loved the Lord and was a faithful founding member of Calvary Baptist Church on Pamalee Drive, Fayetteville, N.C.

Miss Hallie loved life and everyone around her. Her hobbies included yard work, gardening, and being a home maker and caretaker. She was a great cook and a meticulous housekeeper. She loved surf fishing with her sister Ruth Jackson and friend Lela Blanchard. She looked forward to her daily afternoon snacks with her beloved daughter-in-law Kathy. She also enjoyed galivanting with her daughter-in-law Carolyn, which normally included a manicure and pedicure.

Miss Hallie retired as a cafeteria worker with the Cumberland County School System, Fayetteville, N.C. She primarily worked at Washington Drive Junior High and E. E. Smith High School.

She is survived by her eldest son David E. Hall and wife Carolyn Mullenax Hair-Hall of Garner N.C. and her youngest son Ricky E. Hall and wife Kathy Sullivan Hall of Richmond, VA. A grandson, William Ryan Adams and three great grandchildren Chloe, Samantha and Waylon Adams of Highland Springs, VA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members including Debbie Brown, Cathy Horne, Ruth Kelly, Bill Ray, Keith Ray, Linda Dew, Diane Fort and Becky Fort. Special friends Sarah Brock Black, Kathy Herring Hughes and Sharon Mabe Ferrell.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ed T. Hall. Her parents Alfonso Ray and Daisy Ray Allen, brothers Howard Ray, William Lacy “John” Ray and Jimmy Ray, sisters Hazel Ray Horne, Ruth Ray Jackson and Jean Ray.

The immediate family will receive family members and friends for a celebration of life at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory 610 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, NC on Saturday September 20 from 1:30 to 2:45pm with interment beside her husband in Lafayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville, NC at 3:00pm.

Prayers, words of comfort and encouragement will be shared by Bill McInnis. Also officiating, the Reverend Brooks R. Grimes, Northview Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC.
