Hans Armin Kraus, born on April 28, 1932, in Wuerzburg, Germany, passed away surrounded by family in Valley Center, Kansas, on September 5, 2025. He lived a life full of meaning, dedication, and love, which he shared generously with those around him.
Hans enjoyed a distinguished career as an engineer at Boeing Military Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kansas. His commitment to his profession was only matched by his sense of duty, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Hans's educational journey included obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Wichita State University, where he laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.
A proud member of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Hans shared his musical talents as a former member of the church's Chancel Choir. He enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, traveling, and hobby farming. He was a proud member of the German American Association, serving as its former president, where he played a significant role in fostering community ties and cultural understanding. He was particularly proud of his role as a devoted family member, cherishing every moment spent with loved ones.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Karen Elisabeth Kraus, and their sons, Drs. Karl Kraus and Bonnie Kraus, and Dr. Kent Kraus and Marty Kraus. Hans was a proud grandfather to Shawn O'Neal, Bryan O'Neal, Nicklas Kraus and Megan Kraus, Stefan Kraus and Elizabeth Kraus, and Lorelle Kraus. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Brendan O'Neal and Mila Kraus. He also leaves behind his brother Arno and wife Berta Flori.
He is mourned by those who remember his kindness, wisdom, and the vibrant spirit he brought to life. Hans was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kathryn E. Lewis; his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn O’Neal along with his parents, Baptist and Loni Kraus, and his brothers, Ewald Kraus and Fritz Kraus.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas. The family invites all who knew and loved Hans to join them in remembering a remarkable man whose legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to call him family and friend.
