Hans KRAUSS Obituary

March 31, 1930 - November 23, 2024

Hans Krauss passed away on November 23, 2024, in Spokane Valley. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; sons, John and Erik; grandson, Spencer; and several cousins in Germany. He was born in Staten Island, NY in 1930 and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1947. He managed the family dairy farm in upstate New York and received a degree from SUNY Delhi in 1950. He volunteered for the draft in 1954 and served as a Staff Sergeant and Jungle Expert in the U.S. Army 33rd Infantry regiment stationed in Panama. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended Cornell University, receiving a B.S. degree in Agronomy in 1959. He married Kathryn Howard in Springfield, MA in 1960. Hans enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career in the Soil Conservation Service (USDA) working in Ritzville, Odessa, Warden, Raymond, and Spokane, Washington. He enjoyed numerous hobbies and activities during his life including photography, clock repair, 3-D photography, bird watching with Kathryn, and mountain climbing. He was especially proud of summiting Mt. Rainier in 1972. There will not be a memorial service at Hans's request.

Condolences to the Krauss family. I am so sorry to hear about Hans' passing. He lived a very full life, and I will always remember his insight and hospitality. I learned a lot from him.
