Harley Mayfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Deschutes Memorial Chapel on Feb. 17, 2026.
Harley LeRoy Mayfield, 92, of Prineville, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1933, in Bend, Oregon, where his family originally homesteaded and where the roots of his lifelong connection to Central Oregon began.

Harley was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1953. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably during the Korean War beginning in 1953. His service to his country was a source of great pride throughout his life.

On March 1, 1953, Harley married Sammie Mayfield in Springfield, Oregon. They built a life together filled with hard work, dedication, and love until her passing in 2005. Harley remarried, on September 3, 2011, to Cleta Mayfield, with whom he found love, companionship and shared many meaningful years with.

Harley's early career began with the State of Oregon Highway Department, following in the footsteps of his father. He later transitioned into the plywood industry, where he built a successful and respected career. His work took him across the United States and even internationally to Indonesia and Brazil, offering him opportunities to experience the world while doing what he loved. By the time of his passing, Harley had retired for several years.

A longtime resident of Prineville, he returned to the area after living in Mapleton, Oregon, reconnecting with the region where his family had first settled generations earlier. Harley appreciated the outdoors and embraced the Oregon lifestyle-he enjoyed flying his airplane, hunting, fishing, camping, barefoot waterskiing and football. Later in life, he discovered a love for video games, surprising his family with how much he enjoyed the challenge and thrill of winning.

Harley is survived by his wife Cleta Mayfield and his children:

• Daughter: Dellisa Belveal and Son-in-law Bill Belveal of Springfield, OR.

• Son: Steve Mayfield and Daughter-in-law Sharon Mayfield of Eugene, OR.

• Daughter: Jan Page and Son-in-law Mike Page of Redmond, OR.

• Son: Gene Mayfield of Sweet Home, OR.

He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom enriched his life and brought him immense pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by:

• Father: Harley Mayfield (September 1994)

• Mother: Evie Mayfield (August 2004)

• Wife: Sammie L. Mayfield (October 2005)

• Brother: Robert M. Mayfield (August 1, 2024)

Services will be held on May 22, 2026 at 2PM. Location: Deschutes Memorial Chapel and Gardens, located at 63875 N Highway 97, Bend, OR 97701.

Harley will be remembered for his strength, humor, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy continues in the many lives he touched and the generations that follow.
