Harley Strom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Robbinsdale on Feb. 26, 2026.
Harley Glenn Strom

March 17, 1928 - February 22, 2026

Harley Glenn Strom, 97, of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Harley was born on March 17, 1928-St. Patrick's Day-in rural Minnesota near the village of Hanska. A proud descendant of early Norwegian settlers, his great-grandfather was among the first Norwegian families to settle in the area. He grew up with a deep appreciation for family, heritage, and hard work.

Harley served his country in the United States Army at the close of World War II and was stationed in Japan as part of the Allied Occupation Forces. He built a long and steady career as a machinist in Minneapolis, where he worked for more than 30 years.

Harley was an avid sportsman who embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved golfing-playing regularly until about six months before his passing-as well as fishing, billiards, and bowling. He also enjoyed keeping up with Minnesota sports teams, especially the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. Whether on the golf course, spending summers at the lake "up north," enjoying winters in Arizona, or gathering with friends and family, he treasured companionship and friendly competition. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and, most recently, his great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Cora Strom; and his siblings, Orville, Lloyd, Deloris, Delphine, and Jerry.

Harley is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Dorothy (Ouren) Strom; his children, Gregory Strom, Jane Strom (Steve Hagberg), and JoEllen Ricci (Mike); seven grandchildren: Kady, Hannah (Gavriel), Travis (Somer), Brent, Julian (Mellissa), Nathan, and Sophia; and his great-grandson, Hunter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at Elim Lutheran Church, 3978 West Broadway, Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Harley will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in a private ceremony.

Harley will be remembered for his devotion to family, his steady work ethic, and the quiet strength and kindness that defined his 97 years.
