Harley (Honk) Alfred Witte passed away on September 13, 2023 at Aspen Memory Care in Ft. Collins, CO. He was one month and a week short of being 90 years young. Harley passed gently in his sleep with his daughter and granddaughters by his side.
Harley was born in Wray, CO to Chris Witte and Louise Bergman Witte, number four of five sons born to the couple.
Harley married Peggy Marie Garton in Wray, CO on November 8, 1953. They had two children, Jeanie and Robert.
He attended school in Vernon, CO and one year at Aggie College (CSU). He was a farmer, rancher, and an employee of Mountain Bell from which he retired. He went on to start his own business, an Auto Detail and supply. He moved back to Wray when Peggy retired, where they lived a very involved life in the community and their church.
As an employee of Mountain Bell, the family lived in many different locations within Colorado- Granby, Loveland, Craig, Colorado Springs. They ended up in Ft. Collins, where he worked as a lineman, installer, and in the new service department, where he planned services for new homes and subdivisions.
Harley was predeceased in death by his parents Chris and Louise, his brothers, Wayne, Clarence, Dick, and Dean, his son Robert Dean Witte and his wife of fifty-nine years, Peggy Marie Garton Witte.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeanie Hoppal (James) of Rifle, CO, grandchildren Amber Yoshida (Donn) of Windsor, Myria (Matt) of Rifle, Tabitha (Dion) of Grand Junction) and Pete (Kyrbi) of Lone Tree, 5 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Wray, Colorado.
Interment will be held in Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 518 Dexter Street, Wray, Colorado 80758.
Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
