Harlin Dean Smith Jr., 73, of Searcy went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 10, 1951, in Hattiesburg, Miss., to H.D. Sr. and the late Sarah (Myrick) Smith.
Bro. Dean was a kind, faithful pastor who loved the Lord. He was a retired First Sergeant of the United States Army who served his country proudly and faithfully for 21 1/2 years. He had a bachelor's degree in theology and was a Minister for 33 years, serving his final 10 years as Pastor of Westview Missionary Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Connie Smith; one son, Aaron Smith (Kim) of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Heather Broom (Dustan) of Columbia, Miss., and Rebekah Martinez (Joshua) of Heber Springs, Ark.; his father, H.D. Smith Sr.; two brothers, Norman Smith (Nina) of Richton, Miss., and Robert Smith (Kaye) of Moselle, Miss.; one sister, Sue Watkins of Ridgeland, Miss.; and eight grandchildren, Hunter Fletcher, Trisdon Broom, Nathan Martinez, Tyler Smith, Alexia Broom, Isabella Martinez, Isaac Martinez and Ezra Martinez. Bro. Dean was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Smith, and one sister, Tina Hicks.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 13, from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Westview Missionary Baptist Church, Searcy, Ark. Funeral services will start at 12 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, at Westview Missionary Baptist Church, Searcy, Ark. Interment will be at Heber Springs Cemetery in Heber Springs, Ark. All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.
