Harmon Drafts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitaker Funeral Home - Newberry on May 2, 2024.
Harmon "Dan" Danyel Drafts, age 76, of Prosperity died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia. Born July 31, 1947 in Columbia, he was a son of the late John Danyel and Hazel Marie Owen Drafts. He was married to Deborah Kay Blume Drafts for 43 years.
Dan graduated in 1966 from Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, California. Soon after, he joined the Marine Corps, where he served faithfully. He spent his career as a heavy equipment mechanic, ultimately retiring to enjoy more time with his family.
He was a man of faith and a longtime member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Dan enjoyed life in many ways. An avid hunter and sportsman, he was a collector of guns and a member of the National Rifle Association. He appreciated watching Western movies, especially "Blazing Saddles". He was a Clemson football fan and enjoyed watching games, especially with family and friends. Dan had a great sense of humor and was a practical jokester. He appreciated the simple pleasure of just talking with people and never met a stranger. Most of all, Dan was proud of his family and large circle of close friends. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife Debbi, he is survived by his daughters Sherry D. McCutcheon and Cindy L. Drafts; a son John D. Drafts (Katie); grandchildren Chelsea A. McCutcheon, Collin A. Drafts, Eliza J. Drafts, and Hayden D. Drafts; great grandchildren Serenity Reyes and Caroline Greene; and brother, Jim Drafts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George R. Drafts.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Memories and messages of condolence may be shared with the family on his tribute wall.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Drafts family.
