Harold Dean Attebery passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2026, at the age of 84 surrounded by his family. Born on February 24, 1941, in Paola, Kansas, to Chester H. and Hazel P. (Arnholt) Attebery.
Harold started his career with Clements and Green as a salesman. Then he worked for Rainbow Bread, then he was transferred to Ottawa, KS, and was the manager at an IGA. He was then transferred to Garnett, KS, at the IGA and then onto Paola, KS. That is where he meets Jim Queen and Jim asks him to work for him as a manager of Buy Right and then it became Price Chopper for the last 27 years of his career until he retired. He also owned Little People World Day Care with his wife.
In addition to his career, Harold found joy in various hobbies, he loved spending time at the 40 acres farm he had with family and friends, fishing and camping, creating cherished memories throughout his lifetime. Harold also liked playing Texas Hold ‘EM and visiting the casinos. These pastimes not only brought him happiness but also fostered connections with friends and family.
Harold’s love story began when he married Valeta Gay Miller on September 4, 1959. Together, shared 64 years of marriage filled with love and devotion, creating a nurturing environment that allowed their family to flourish. Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife Valeta, his parents, and great-grandson, Paxton Haws.
He is survived by his daughter, Dodie (Bob) Trickett,; his son, Tod Attebery and his daughter, Debra (Kenneth) Robbins; grandchildren, Sasha (Kendall) Goodwin, Sarah (Clay) Haws, Shelby (Johnathan) Krahl, Levi Attebery, Lacy Attebery, and Austin (Brittany) Robbins; and eight great-grandchildren. Additionally, Harold is remembered by his siblings, Charlotte (Jim) Bousman, Kenneth (Connie) Attebery, Earl (Dee) Attebery, Paula (Roger) Zimmerman, and Penny (Kevin) Murray, and many nieces and nephews all of whom cherished their time with him.
Harold Dean Attebery will be honored with a graveside service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery on 68 Highway on February 6, 2026, at 1:00pm. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose legacy of love, strength, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire those who knew him.
