Harold J. Eischen

A funeral Mass for Harold J. Eischen, 92 of Wesley, will be held Wednesday, January 24th, at 10:30 AM at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, January 23rd, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Wesley. There will be a Scripture Prayer Services beginning at 4:45 PM.
Harold James Eischen was born at home in St. Benedict, Iowa on May 9, 1931, to Alex and Anna (Bormann) Eischen. He grew up on a farm near St. Benedict, graduating from Lu Verne High School in 1949. After High School, Harold then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, being stationed in France.
After returning, Harold married MaryAnn Hauptly on June 17, 1952, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley. The couple made their home and farmed north of Wesley until 1995, when they retired and moved into Wesley. Harold also helped his wife MaryAnn run her restaurant "MA's Café" in Wesley.
Harold was a huge lover of all kinds of wildlife, supporting several foundations and planting and maintaining several wildlife patches and ponds. He was an avid duck and goose hunter, enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, and also enjoyed trap shooting at the Isaac Walton League, of which he was a long-time member. Harold also was the first member of the Kossuth County Ducks Unlimited Chapter. Harold was a person of routine he could be seen making his low-speed route past the farm and throughout the community daily. After the passing of his beloved wife MaryAnn, he could be seen driving his golf cart around Wesley, most times with his long-time friend, Joan Grandgenett. His family and faith were very important to him. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley, and the Wesley American Legion Andrews\ Post #428. During high school he was a pitcher for the baseball team and throughout the years he was an avid Oakland A's fan and Green Bay Packers fan.
Harold James Eischen died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Britt, Iowa, at the age of 92.
Surviving are three sons, David (Erin) Eischen, of Lu Verne, Russell Eischen, and Alex (Jolene) Eischen, both of Wesley; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and his special friend Joan Grandgenett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife MaryAnn on October 21, 2008; his son Michael on October 23, 2020; his son Timothy on November 5, 2020 and three brothers and a sister and their spouses Marvin (Sal) Eischen, Verna (Henry) Pfeffer, Robert (Stella) Eischen and Phil (Ruth) Eischen.
