Funeral Mass for Phyllis will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish-St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Divine Mercy Catholic Parish-Presentation Center.
Phyllis Rose Simons was born October 20, 1935, in Bancroft to Leo and Mabel (Wilhelmi) Elsbecker. She attended school in Bancroft graduating in the class of 1953. After high school she went on to further her education at a technical college for one year. Phyllis then worked various jobs, working at the country club, Hood's Super Valu and the Veterans affairs office.
On July 30, 1955, Phyllis was united in marriage to Ralph Simons at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft, to this union five children were born.
Phyllis loved her family. Her grandchildren meant the most to her. She would also watch her grandchildren in school activities, especially sports. Phyllis loved sewing and tending to her flowers in the summertime.
She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the American Legion Auxiliary, and would sing in the church funeral choir.
Phyllis died Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. She was 89.
Phyllis is survived by her five children, Judith Gonzales of West Des Moines, Michelle (Bob) Schoby of Blair, Nebraska, Nick (the late Theresa) Simons of Grimes, Melinda (Mark) Erpelding of Algona, David (Mara) Simons of Urbandale; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gail (Jim) Cowan of Algona, Linda (Bernie) Veak of Adel and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents; daughter-in-law, Theresa Simons; brothers, Jack, Jim and Chuck Elsbecker; sisters, Beryl Bisenius, Eloise Rees, Carol Keith and Cleo Elsbecker.
