Harold Frey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Salt Lake City on Jan. 21, 2026.
Heaven rejoiced and the world cried on Saturday, January 17, 2026, when Harold Eugene Frey passed away due to complications of congestive heart failure.

Harold, a resident of Provo, Utah, is survived by his wife, Mary; his five children, Ryan (Char), Rachelle (Brian) Mascarenas, Ashley, Kevin (Lindy), and Marissa; eight grandchildren, Zaylee, Zyler, Zairyn, Ava, Maya, Lily, Zella, and Noah; sister Patty (Tim) Pedersen; friends; nieces and nephew; and many others who love him. His family will miss him greatly, but they also know he is surrounded by all his loved ones who preceded him in death, including his father Alva Arthur Frey, and his mother Naomi Shaw (Harris), and his beloved aunt Rosalie, in addition to his German Shepherd, Molly, and many other people and dogs and even a few cats.

Harold was a very kind man who quite often went out of his way to help others. He wanted to repay the kindness he had been shown when he was younger by helping out those in need.

He was born in Dodge City, Kansas, and grew up in Kansas, Arizona, and California before attending college in Arizona. He graduated with an M.S. Degree in agricultural science from ASU before earning his Master of Library Science Degree from BYU. Soon after earning this second Master's degree, he began working for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as the head of the visual resources department, then he later moved over to the family history library as a cataloguer. He worked for the Church for over 31 years, and he was very proud of the letter he received from the First Presidency when he retired from the Church in 2010.

Harold loved spending time with his family by going to restaurants, traveling to and attending many reunions, and making ice cream. Many lasting memories were made with his loved ones as they hand-cranked ice cream for hours during scorching hot camping trips. It brought him – and all who tried the ice cream – lots of joy.

Harold was a very kind, gracious man who tried hard all his life to do good things and be an example to others. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved talking football and basketball with his sons, son-in-law, and grandchildren. His imprint will forever have a lasting effect on all who knew him. He will be very greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 1120 N. 850 W. in Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services at the same building. All are welcome.

Mary and family I'm sad to hear about Harold. He was such a special guy, called me on my birthday every year even after I retired (Dr. Ridge / Dr. Patty). He truly was an angel on earth. Love Jill
