Harold R. "Dickie" Gonsalves

Harold R. "Dickie" Gonsalves Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on July 29 at Regal Care in Harwich. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy Gonsalves and the loving father of Pamela Rehmer of Orleans, Andrea Gonsalves McCallum of Easthampton, MA, Harold Richard Gonsalves Jr (Aprale) of Gainesville, VA, and Jordena Vianne Backnick (Ronald) of Medina, OH. He was the proud grandfather of Robert Charbonneau Jr., Tess McCallum, and Demisse Gonsalves. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dickie was predeceased by his parents, Delphino and Palmira Gonsalves and his brothers, Paul, Stanley, Fred, Frank, and David.
Dickie was a lifelong resident of Harwich. For many years, he owned a landscaping business, and helped many local teenagers start out in the workforce by employing them. He retired from the Town of Harwich as a foreman. Dickie loved to play his guitar and performed Cape Verdean music in bands all over Cape Cod. Dickie was a very caring and generous man to his family and community.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 4-7 pm at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, Blute Chapel, 678 Main St. Harwich Center. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, August 3 at 11 am at Holy Trinity Church, Route 28 in West Harwich. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich.
