SIDNEY - Harold E. Kies, fondly known as "Keysie", 88, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at 3:22 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton following a severe stroke. He was born in Lakeview, Ohio on May 8, 1937, a son of the late Clarence H. Kies and Anna Marie (Opphile) Kies.
On September 15, 1957, Harold married Mary Eleanor (Easton) Kies in DeGraff, Ohio and she survive, along with their two children, Nancy (Kyle) Bowman of St. Paris, and Mike Kies of Sidney; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Mike) Burns of St. Paris, Leslie (Eric) Roseberry of Springfield, Michael Kies of Sidney, and Tiffany (Joe) Kies of Piqua; six great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Eick of Dellroy, and Eileen Kies of Botkins; a brother, Norman (Deloris) Kies of Sidney; sister-in-law, Linda Kies; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Raymond Kies, Arthur (Pauline) Kies, Richard (Shirley) Kies, and brother-in-law, John Eick.
A 1955 graduate of Jackson Center High School, Harold retired from Copeland in Sidney in 1999, following 44 years of service. Weekends often found Harold and Mary at local garage sales. Proud members of the American Legion Post 217 Sons and Auxiliary Unit 217, Harold enjoyed organizing and playing card games there, creating lasting memories with their many friends.
Pastor Jane Madden will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Pearl Cemetery, 11095 County Road 25A, in Sidney, Ohio.
Memorial contributions can be made, in Harold's memory, to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45458 or to the Sidney American Legion Post 217 Auxiliary, 1265 4th Avenue, Sidney, Ohio 45365.
