Harold Lucas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Home - Bethesda Chapel on Mar. 19, 2026.
Harold Earl Lucas, 90, of Bethesda, Ohio, passed away on March 18, 2026. He was born in Beallsville, Ohio, on February 23, 1936, a son of the late Floyd and Wilma (Crum) Lucas.

Harold was an adventurer and a free spirit. He was the last of a generation of wanderers, always imagining what was over the horizon. He possessed the same curiosity that drove explorers and led pioneers to settle a continent. His first job was driving a truck from North Carolina to Maine before he had a license. He spent a winter installing a gas pipeline across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He saw every part of the United States from behind the wheel of a truck.

Harold was a proud truck driver. He loved the profession. Harold never considered himself "officially retired." If he wasn't driving somewhere, he would have an old grease-stained atlas out at the table showing everyone routes to take or to avoid. Harold also enjoyed working on his trucks as much as he did driving them. He could fix anything. Harold's tools included several he invented himself to fix particular problems. More times than anyone could count, the solution to a mechanical problem included the words "Let's go ask Pap." He loved to "tinker," especially on old cars, trucks and tractors.

He also enjoyed watching old Western movies, NASCAR races and THE Ohio State Buckeyes. He claimed to like the Bengals because he "felt kind of sorry for them." He was universally well-liked, from people that knew him for ninety years to people who knew him for ninety seconds. He was a conversationalist who truly enjoyed people and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Lucas, and two siblings, Edwin Lucas and Bobby Hall.

Left to cherish the memories are his sons, Mark (Sherry) Lucas, Kevin (Marcia) Lucas, and Darin Lucas; grandchildren, Jason (Carrie) Lucas, Bethany (Nate) Cooley, Jessica (Steve) Haythorn, Sonya Lucas, Tiffany Lucas, Steven (Megan) Lucas, Morgan Lucas, Michael (Cara) Norris, Josh (Allison) Lucas, Lindsey (Joe) Faini, and Jared Gossett; his siblings, Eleanor Williamson, Beverly Datkuliak, Larry Lucas, Dwight (Penny) Lucas, and Carolyn (Robert) Stephen; plus numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to the calling hours on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 11am to the time of service at 1pm at Wilson Funeral Home, Bethesda Chapel, 322 North Main Street, Bethesda, Ohio 43719. Pastor Kim McFarland will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery.
