Harold Mathis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 27, 2025.
Harold Mathis was born October 3rd, 1936 in Jackson County, TN, to the late Jim F. Mathis and Lillie Mae Stafford Mathis and died on December 26, 2025. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Lassie Davidson Mathis, Son: Timothy Mathis, Sisters: Judy Johnson; Jemmie Mathis. Survivors include Brother: Jackie (Shirley) Mathis, 2 Sisters: Lena Mai Davis of Gainesboro, TN, and Janice Cole of Cookeville, TN. Son, Jeff Mathis (Angela) of Nashville, TN; daughter, Laura Mathis Wheeler of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Huston Wheeler of Cookeville, Haley Mathis of Spring Hill, TN, and Abby Mathis Egas (David) of Denver, CO
Harold would say that marrying Lassie was the best decision that he ever made. He was a Christian and member of the Church of Christ largely because of her Godly influence (1 Cor 7:13-14). He was a mechanic by trade who loved hard work of all kinds including construction, plumbing and electrical. He constantly had multiple, ongoing projects over the years like gardening, growing tobacco, and raising pigs and chickens. In fact, he was still chopping wood into his 70s and restoring antique trucks until last month. His greatest delight in life was his three grandchildren who melted his heart and taught him to express pure joy.
Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home is managing graveside services at 2:00 on December 28th at the Pharris Cemetery.
