Harold Eugene "Gene" McCleskey passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2025, in Lake City Florida at the age of 93.

He was born on July 25th, 1932, in Miami, Florida to Ray and Nora McCleskey, the second of five children. He volunteered for service in the Army during the Korean War, and during his service he met his wife of 71 years, Loraine. After his discharge, he attended and graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent a full career as an engineer, after which he was a small businessman in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before retiring to Leasburg, North Carolina.

In addition to his wife Loraine, he is survived by his four children - Laurie Casner (Geoff), Carey McCleskey (Kerry), Edward "Ted" McCleskey (Kim), and Scott McCleskey (Ester) - as well as eight grandchildren and his brother, Seldon McCleskey.

Gene was a talented musician, playing tuba in a leading high school marching band and in Army bands. He was also actively involved in his church, including serving as Treasurer for Leasburg United Methodist Church. He also traveled widely, taking his family on driving trips across the U.S. Later in life, he and Loraine spent time with family in Europe, visiting six countries while there.

A memorial service for Gene will be held on August 29th at Gateway Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Lake City, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation (Support the MG Community | Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America).
