On March 19, 2024, Harold C. Nesbit left his weary body and rode through the gates of heaven. Born in Magnolia, Arkansas on August 6, 1931, to Louie Nesbit and Gladys (Martin) Nesbit.
Harold spent much of his early childhood suffering from Polio. Learning to walk and talk again formed him into the strong and loving man he was. At 14 he moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico with his family, where a couple of years later he met the love of his life Wanda Lackey. On May 3, 1950, they were married in her parents' home. They were blessed with five children. Harold worked 20 years at Bond Ice Company in Carlsbad, then they moved to Morton, Texas where for the next 10 years he spent horseback as a feed yard cowboy for Owen Bros. This was the perfect occupation for him, combining his lifelong love for horses, cows, and being outdoors. Harold returned to Carlsbad, New Mexico, got a commercial driver's license and drove a truck for United Salt until he retired in 1993. At that time, he and Wanda moved to Brady, Texas where they found their forever home. A place where he raised horses, cows, and where their grandchildren yearned to be. A place lovingly called "The Nesbit Ponderosa".
Harold was proceeded in death by his parents, Louie, and Gladys Nesbit, three brothers Ralph (Virgie), Wyatt (Maryanne), Dwyatt (Thelma) Nesbit, two children as infants Sharon Lynn and Ernie Dean Nesbit, brother-in-law Bill Henry, two sons-in-law Benny Burnett, and Brent Eastman, two grandsons Caleb Stockwell and Shon Eastman.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Wanda Nesbit, sister Francis Henry, daughters Linda Eastman, Sheila Keller (Dallas), son Harold Dean Nesbit, 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, 1 great great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. His legacy of love will live on in each of them.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home of Brady.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Brady with Gaylon Morris officiating. Burial will be at Pear Valley Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Brady.
