Harold W. Pickrell

DURHAM– Harold W. Pickrell, 85, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026 at Pruitt Health Carolina Point. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, to the late James Pickrell and Margaret Bayes Pack. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pickrell was also predeceased by his wife, Carol Ann Perry Pickrell; and sister, Virginia Fluet.
Mr. Pickrell was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Durham Police Dept. in 1996. After retirement, Harold did many odds and ends jobs, however, his greatest "job" was being Pappy to his 2 granddaughters. He enjoyed attending all of their athletic events and spending time with them. He also enjoyed going on annual vacations each summer with his son, Greg, daughter-in-law Nancy, and the kids, Kristin & Kynzie. There was never a dull moment on these trips and they will be cherished memories.
Mr. Pickrell is survived by his son, Gregory W. Pickrell (Nancy); sisters, Betty Pickrell Craig and Diane Pickrell Agee; grandchildren, Mackynzie Pickrell (Cooper), Kristin Pickrell Rackley (Dryw). He was also survived by many cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends and visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 22nd at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 23rd at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Chaplain Phil Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
We would like to thank the staff, nurses & aides at Pruitt Health Carolina Pointe for taking care of Harold all these years. Thank you to Phyllis & Tammy at the front desk for always being a friendly face. Thank you to Mahogany for treating Harold like family and loving him as we do. We would also like to thank the family of Charles Cameron for always watching out for Harold during their time as roommates. Lastly, thank you to the Hospice staff at Pruitt for being so kind during this time.
