Harold Eugene Smith, known to many as Gene, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on December 30, 1945, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Tony and Sarah Smith.
Gene led a fulfilling life dedicated to service and commitment. He spent over forty years employed at Safeway/Homeland, where his dedication and hard work left a lasting impact.
A proud veteran, Gene served with honor in the United States Army for six years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished the great outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing and camping. Traveling also held a special place in his heart.
One of Gene's proudest achievements was his marriage to the love of his life, Vida, in September of 1967, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their bond was eternal and filled with love. Gene was also a devoted family man who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every moment spent with them brought him immeasurable happiness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Sarah (McGehee) Smith; his beloved wife, Vida Smith; and son-in-law Kelly Medders.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Melvina Medders of Claremore; brothers, Tony Smith of Pryor, and J.C. Smith and wife Debbie of Pryor; sisters, Sue Crawford of Azle, TX, Peggy Curry of Farmington, AR, Reta Terry and husband Jr. of Pryor, and Georgia Ladd of Tulsa; grandchildren, Michael Medders and Rebecca, and Jessica Cyr and husband Matthew all of Claremore; and two great-grandchildren, VidaJo Cyr and Kelly Cyr.
Funeral services for Gene will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2024, at Creekside Church in Pryor with Reverend Andrew Rehbein officiating. Interment will follow at Graham Memorial Cemetery with James Arrowsmith, Charles Arrowsmith, Curtis Crawford, Tim Smith, Michael Medders, and Blane Crawford serving as casket bearers. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor.
