A life well lived. Harold is, and will always remain, a great example of how a good, honest, purposeful, life can be lived simply.
He liked to share stories about his time in training camp with the Army, his early days drinking and having fun around Wanamie and Nanticoke, and of his days in the coal mines, and working for the explosive factories. His eyes really lit up while telling the stories, and made us feel as if we were experiencing it again alongside him.
Lee, the love of his life, was a constant companion to him even after she passed, and he would speak of her with clear and bright love in his eyes.
He would tell stories of the many trips they had to Florida, of all the family they visited, and of the quirky habits she had. He would always have a smile while talking about Lee.
His family visits were very important to him, and he would talk at length about visiting siblings, or cousins, etc, and of the people who visited him. It seemed like he had an infinite capacity to appreciate the time he spent with family and friends.
He spoke dearly of all of his family, he mentioned his granddaughters Erin and Heather with pride, and would particularly beam when talking about Tyler, his great grandson.
While I visited with Harold every couple of years, and definitely not enough, he would always welcome us with open arms, and would make us coffee and eggs just the way Lee used to make them. He always made us feel as if we had been there all along, and as welcome as family.
We miss you dear friend. Thank you for all the stories, the lessons, your advise, and for showing us how living a simple life full of gratitude can be so good.
Bye for now dear friend. We will continue to retell your stories in our heads, and see your laugh as you told them.
