Newport, NH: Harold A. Wilson, 87, passed away peacefully at Woodlawn Care Center on September 28, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1937 in Boston, MA to the late Amos and Viola Ruth (Langille) Wilson. The family moved to Newport when Hal was 2 and he lived here all his life, most of it at his home on East Mountain Road.

Hal served his country in the US Army during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and then in the Army National Guard. He married Judith Wilkins in 1962 and they spent 63 years together.

Hal worked for A & P Grocery Store for many years before spending 33 years working at Sturm Ruger. He was very active in the community, as a Mason and a Shriner, as a member of the Moose Lodge and the Foresters Club, and as a member of the American Legion. He was also one of the founding members of the Twin Ridge Mountaineers snowmobile club. Harold enjoyed being outdoors, snowmobiling, fishing, and dancing. He liked camping, and he and Judy spent 3 months on a camping trip in Alaska after his retirement.

Hal had an infectious smile and liked being with people. He was always willing to help a friend whenever they might call.

Hal was predeceased by his parents, and by 10 siblings; Douglas, Donald, Laura, Aubrey, Edna, Charles (Buzzy), Ralph, Pauline, Margaret, and Norman. Surviving family members include his loving wife of 63 years, Judith Wilson of Newport; daughter, Jill Wilson and her husband, Don Plaza, of Newbury; son, Jim Wilson and his wife, Dawn, of Newport; brother, David Wilson and his wife, Sally, of Ft. Myers, FL; sister-in-law, Joanne Wilson; and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the Forester's Club, 38 Maple Street, Newport, on Saturday October 4, 2025 from 1 - 3 PM. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newport Senior Center at 76 South Main Street, PO Box 387, Newport, NH 03773.
