Harriet Crystal Baxter, 94, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on June 23, 2024, in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Born on November 21, 1929, in Olive Twp, Michigan, to Jacob and Henrietta (Bartels) Brandsen, Harriet's life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, friends, and community, woven with threads of joy and care.
As the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family, Harriet's legacy is carried on by her children Linda Rosales, Michael Baxter, Julie (Jerry) Garner, and Steven (Kristy) Baxter. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly through her grandchildren Craig (Laraine) Baxter, Bobby (Sami) Baxter, Michael Vaughn Baxter, Heather (Michael) Saxton, Andrew (Tammy) Rosales, Jacob (Haley) Garner, Cody (Christine) Baxter, Jordan Baxter, Crystal (Anthony) Parker, and Travis Rosales, as well as her seventeen great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vaughn Baxter; son, David Baxter; granddaughter, Hailey Baxter; sisters, Jannette Hoort and Pauline Arnesen; brothers, Alfred Brandsen and Gordon Brandsen.
Harriet's journey through life was marked by enduring friendships, most notably her 78-year friendship with Agnes Cranson, who stood by her through thick and thin. Their bond, a testament to Harriet's unwavering loyalty and warmth, was a source of strength and comfort throughout her years.
A proud graduate and the first homecoming queen of Grand Ledge High School, Harriet's youthful vibrancy set the stage for a life full of achievements. In her professional life, she was a respected employee at Community First Bank. Alongside her career, Harriet was a pillar of support for her husband, Vaughn, in the operation of the gas station they owned, showcasing her multifaceted skills and dedication.
Harriet's contributions to her community were further highlighted by her active membership at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.
Beyond her formal roles, Harriet was passionate about creating memories with her family, especially when it came to organizing family events. Her talents in sewing, quilting, and baking were not only hobbies but also expressions of her love, leaving a lasting impression on those she cherished. Her hands, always busy, crafted not only beautiful quilts and delicious treats but also a warm and inviting home where everyone felt welcomed.
Harriet Baxter was a woman who lived her life with an open heart, embracing the role of a proud Baxter and cherishing every moment spent with her family. Her greatest joy was found in the laughter and stories shared around the kitchen table, where generations of Baxter's gathered to celebrate their shared history and love for one another.
A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, June 28, 2024, 11:00 a.m, at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Harriet, always was smiling and love people. Took a day trip with her and Agnas Cranson, Donna Sweet & myself. I will always remember laughing and fun we had that day. She would always as me to meet with girls. But never could, I was still working. Rest in peace. Prayers to family.
