Harriet Pearl Brood, age 88, of Selma, died August 9, 2024 at her home.
Harriet was born March 26, 1936 in Medford to John & Pearl Morris. She was raised on the family farm in the Table Rock area of Southern Oregon. Harriet attended elementary school at the 2-room Table Rock School through the 8th grade. She then attended Central Point High school for two years and graduated as valedictorian from the new Crater High School, class of 1953. On August 29, 1954 in Medford, Oregon she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Brood. Prior to marriage she was employed as a key-punch operator and continued that occupation at Oregon State University, enabling her husband to attend college. In 1959 she and her husband moved to Cave Junction, Oregon where he began his career in public education. Harriet became a bank teller at the Bank of Illinois Valley until the arrival of their first child in 1964. She then became at stay-at-home mother/wife raising their son, Richard and daughter Sarah. Harriet volunteered as a teacher’s aide when Sarah entered Evergreen Elementary School and was later employed by that same school. Following the tragic deaths of their son Richard (Rick) and daughter Sarah in 1983, she was subsequently employed by several schools in what is now the Three Rivers School District, culminating her work career as the Head Secretary/office Manager at Illinois Valley High School in 1992.
After her retirement she had the time to do those things that she enjoyed and that were meaningful to her. She was a loving, kind and thoughtful person who helped countless people in many different ways. She had a very strong faith in God and did her best to live by that faith. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Harriet was a founding member of Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cave Junction.
She especially enjoyed Bible study and scripture reading, swimming, gardening and spoiling her dogs.
Harriet is survived by her husband Ronald E. Brood of Selma; her surrogate daughter Brandy Yost of Grants Pass; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
