Steve Brood faced esophageal cancer with courage and determination, maintaining a positive attitude, a sharp sense of humor, and a genuine delight in making people smile and laugh.
Steve was born in
Twin Falls, Idaho, on July 25, 1957, to Arlie and Rosie Brood. As a toddler, he moved with his family to Oregon and later lived in California and Washington before returning to Idaho as a teenager. While attending Nampa High School, Steve first experienced law enforcement through ride-alongs with a Nampa police officer, sparking a lifelong calling. With encouragement to gain hands-on experience, he volunteered with a department and officially began his career in 1978 as a patrol officer with the St. Anthony Police Department. In 1988, Steve briefly changed direction, moving to Havre, Montana, where he worked as both a firefighter and a ranch hand. He returned to Idaho in 1995 to work as a correctional officer for the State of Idaho. In 1999, Steve married his constant and greatest joy, Tami Greene, and together they began an adventure that would last his lifetime. In 2001, Steve accepted a position as a Parole Hearing Officer with the State of Idaho, where he continued his service to the State for the next 25 years.
Throughout his life, Steve enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking for the people he loved, and spending time with his fur babies. He had a deep love of history and was always the one who knew the backstory - why something mattered, not just what happened. A devoted Diet Coke fan, Steve also looked forward each year to the return of McDonald's McRib, a small pleasure he enjoyed. He especially loved watching life from the balcony of a cruise ship, taking in the world at his own pace, often with the soundtrack of Jimmy Buffett playing in the background. More than anything, he had a rare ability to make people feel heard and seen. Steve remembered names, listened closely, and had a way of making people feel genuinely seen.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Rosie Brood; his brother, Mike Brood; his sister-in-law, Steffanie Brood; his niece, Molly Vasser; and his nephew, Rob Frizzell.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tami Brood; his sisters, Kathy Barney and her husband Lyle, and Beth Len Wai and her husband Chris; his brother, Duwayne Brood, and his wife Izzy; and his children, Nicole George and her husband Danny, Megan Solomon, Katie Jones and her husband Kaleb, Halley Gould and her husband Mitch, Stephanie Hanson, Chelcey Pacheco, and Brandon Weedon and his wife Kalena. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Steve's memory will live on in the laughter he inspired, the hearts he lifted, and the quiet ways he made the world brighter. Steve will be remembered and loved always.
A private celebration of life will be held later in the summer for the family.
