Harriet Gant Jones

1926 - 2023

Harriet Gant Jones was born on October 29, 1926 in St. James Parish to the late William Gant and Sara Gant. She left her earthly life at peace with God on July 12, 2023. Like most African Americans in the early 1900's; Harriet did not have the easiest childhood. A woman of strength and character she took those experiences and built her life around her love of her faith, family, friends and fashion. Harriet was married to the love of her life, Joseph "Leo" Jones, Jr. for more than 50 years. Together they raised five children, Charles, Joseph III, Gilda, Glenda and Janice. Her beloved Janice and Leo preceded her in death. Harriet was a mother to many; she took great pride on supporting and mentoring her nieces, Lynelle Jones and Te'Jeanne Anderson. She was an active and faithful member of True Vine Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed. Early in her life Harriet developed a love of fashion. She was an original "fashionista" who enjoyed shopping and traveling with her niece and best friend, Ethel Mae. They were always there for each other throughout life's journey. What a woman! Harriet Gant Jones leaves a legacy to follow of faith, love, compassion and perseverance to her children; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at True Vine Baptist Church, 2008 Marigny St. New Orleans, LA 70117 on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 10:00 am.
