Harriet Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Funeral Chapels - Brooklyn on Jan. 29, 2026.
Harriet L. Taylor was born on May 30, 1942, to the late Frank Maxwell and Dorothy Taylor. She spent her early childhood in Sheepshead Bay, affectionately known as "the Bay" by her family, alongside her younger sister, Sandra Taylor (predeceased). In 1957, the Taylor family relocated to East New York, where Harriet built a life rooted in service, community, and love.

Harriet was the proud mother of one son, Barry C. Taylor, who was truly the apple of her eye. Her devotion to her family was unwavering and evident to all who knew her.

Harriet retired from the New York City Police Department as a School Safety Officer, a role that reflected her deep commitment to protecting and uplifting children and families. While living in East New York, she was heavily involved in local politics and community advocacy. Harriet had a passion for helping others and firmly believed that everyone deserved an opportunity-whether that meant assisting someone in finding employment or ensuring a family had a Thanksgiving meal. She was also an active member of the Black Cowboys organization.

Harriet leaves to cherish her memory her four grandchildren: Charisse Caraballo (Marlon Caraballo), Barry K. Taylor, Anthony DeJesus, and Kareem Taylor; and six great-grandchildren: Bianca Taylor, Barry K. Taylor Jr., Jayden DeJesus, Davin DeJesus, LaBria Taylor, and Ava Caraballo. She is also survived by her loving niece, Veronica Lynn, and nephew, Dwayne Lynn; great-nephews Jamell H. Hayes and Tristian A. Hayes; great-nieces Jazmine Lynn and Jai Lynn; great-great-nephews Tristian A. Hayes, Noah T. Hayes, and Albert Howard IV; great-great-nieces Jailani Lynn and Kamani Jones; and a host of family and friends.

Ms. Taylor took Barry and I to my first fancy restaurant when we were kids. The restaurant was Lundy's in Sheepshead Bay. Ms. Taylor was full of knowledge and fun facts. She will be missed.
