Hunter Fitzgerald Taylor
Hunter Fitzgerald Taylor, 80, of Richmond, Va., died peacefully in his residence at Cedarfield on March 8, 2026. Born in Roanoke, Virginia on November 13, 1945, he is survived by his wife, Catherine "Cathy" Vastine Taylor; daughters, Catherine "Katie" Wilkinson (Adam), Elizabeth Johnston (Bayne), and Emily Whittemore (Alex); granddaughters, Lucy Whittemore, Viola Wilkinson, and Mary Johnston; grandsons, Edward Wilkinson, Vaughan Johnston, William Whittemore, and Hunter Johnston; and brother, Robert Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Vaughan Taylor and Frances Jenkins Taylor, and his brother, James Vaughan Taylor, Jr.
Hunter graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1963 and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute in 1967. He later received a Master's in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1971 after participating in a U.S. Atomic Energy Commission–sponsored research program at UVA on early gas centrifuge technology.
He began his career in 1971 with Wiley & Wilson and went on to work in waste-to-energy and power development, founding REFCOM Corp. in 1984 and later serving as a vice president at Black & Veatch. He later developed power plants in Poland and worked with Bechtel Power until retiring in 2013.
He was a devoted husband to Cathy for 54 years. He was a loving and beloved husband, father and grandfather; his sense of duty and commitment to his family were unwavering. His love for VMI and his brother rats was also enduring.
A memorial service is being planned for April 17th in Richmond, and details will be forthcoming through Bliley's Funeral Home website.
