Harry A. Alfred, born on September 7, 1954, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026. He was a dedicated correctional officer at Madison County Correctional Facility in London, Ohio, where he committed himself to his work with care and responsibility.
Harry was a private man who treasured his family deeply. One of the ways he showed his love was through simple, thoughtful acts—cooking for his loved ones and quietly slipping them a $20 bill when they least expected it. These small gestures spoke volumes about the kind of person he was.
He graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1973 and found joy in everyday activities like yard work, enjoying a beer, and watching videos on YouTube. Harry’s proudest accomplishments were his marriage of 54 years to his wife, Sherrie, and raising their children.
Harry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sherrie; his daughters Amy (Donavan) Minnear and Amber (Mike) Ehlinger; and his many grandchildren: Mason, Madalynn, and Sheldon Minnear; Autumn (Brad) Yohe; Paige, Ella, Samuel, Sydney, and Leeah Alfred; and Amyrn and Alaina Ehlinger. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Sawyer and Evangeline Minnear, Elise and Emira Rodgers, Tatum Alfred, and Jack Yohe.
He is survived by his sisters Linda (Don) Gibson, Eva (Tom) Thiel, and Diana Norman, as well as his mother-in-law, Miriam Casto. Numerous nieces and nephews also cherish his memory.
Harry was preceded in death by his son, Paul Alfred; his parents, Harry Sr. and Hazel Alfred; and his sisters Kitty Damron, Mary VanVlack, Sue Essner, and Beverly Thiel.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on April 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held the same day at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Harry A. Alfred’s quiet strength, love for his family, and simple kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. "Pappy was a gift."
