Harry Walter Attig, age 95, of Glenville, MN passed away peacefully in his home on May 12 with his family by his side. Harry was born on January 19, 1929, and grew up on the family farm, with his parents Adam and Olga Attig and three siblings. Harry walked to country school and worked with his dad on the farm during the Great Depression and WWII. He liked playing along the river and railroad tracks with friends and even showed a couple of calves at the county fair. Harry joined the Army at the age of 23 and was stationed in post WWII Germany as a part of the Military Police. He returned to work on the family farm following his time of service. He also enjoyed touring the countryside on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his friends and going to dances where he met his wife.

On April 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Louise Ellen Guerdet and they began their life together on the Attig farm south of Glenville, where they recently celebrated 65 happy years together. They both loved farming, but he especially enjoyed raising cattle. The annual delivery of young calves from the western lands of Montana or North Dakota was always an exciting time on the farm. Harry was a true steward of the land which for him manifested in growing a variety of crops including corn, oats, soybeans, and alfalfa. During this time, four daughters and two sons joined the family, which resulted in toddlers sitting on his lap riding in the tractor cabs, and little girls jumping on the back of the feed wagon as he drove through the feed lot. He was a good neighbor and friend and was always willing to lend a hand to help when needed. Harry was a avid reader and served on the Glenville School Board for six years working to ensure that the upcoming generation would get a quality education.

In life, Harry loved driving his pickup down the gravel roads to check the status of the growing crops, as well as going to the Trading Post and Glenville to socialize and talk farming. He enjoyed the occasional fishing and deer hunting trips with friends, playing cards, ping pong, checkers and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harry is survived by his wife (Louise); children Ann (Ken) O’Riley, Mary Kairouz, Melanie (Thomas) DeRoche, Linda Kral and daughter-in-law Jodi Attig and grandchildren Grant, Kellan and Logan O’Riley, Moriah and Jessica Kairouz, Miranda (Brandon) Diedrich, Molly (Matt) Grobe, Spencer (Amanda) Kral, Faith and Ethan Attig, Brittany Dobberstein, and great grandchildren Rhett, Benjamin and Jack Diedrich and Charlie and Kennedy Kral, Jada and Emerson Braund and Emma Dobberstein.

Harry was preceded in death by his sons Tom and John Attig, his parents Adam and Olga Attig, his brother Dale (Della) Attig and sisters Geneva (Orville) Olson and Wanda Hemann.

Harry’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. A visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, May 17, at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Shriners Hospital, or to St. Judes.
