Harry Borchers Obituary

Harry J. Borchers, Jr., 93, of Lansdale, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Trudy (Albinger) Borchers, his wife of 71 years. Born December 3, 1927 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Lula (De Long) and Harry J. Borchers, Sr. Harry grew up in Briarcliff, outside NYC. He met his wife canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York. They married while he was a student at Clarkson College where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Love of the Adirondacks and their cabin on Raquette Lake drew them back every year to ski, camp and canoe. After a few years with Neptune Meter Company in Carlisle, Pa, Harry moved his family to eastern Pennsylvania to manage the North Wales Water Authority. After working with the Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, he was hired to manage the newly formed North Penn Water Authority where his mission was to modernize and unite the individual water systems of seven municipalities. Realizing that droughts and industrial contamination were impairing the reliability of groundwater wells. Harry, looking twenty years ahead, foresaw the necessity of developing an alternative supply-- guiding the NPWA and other partners to build a Delaware River diversion, treatment facility and distribution system. When residents of the 17 municipalities now served by NPWA turn on their faucets they should thank Harry for the clean and plentiful flow. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jim Borchers (Alice) of Davis, CA, Barry Borchers (Bonnie) of Green Lane, and Clifford H. Borchers (Joanne) of North Wales; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Barbara Lynch of Alexandria, VA. Harry was a devoted lifetime member of Sanctuary United Methodist Church. Relatives and friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Sanctuary United Methodist Church, 1346 E. Prospect Ave., North Wales, PA 19454 followed by the Funeral Service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale. In keeping with Harry’s lifelong goal of providing clean water to people in need, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation to one of the following water charities: Water For People, 100 E. Tennessee Ave., Denver, CO 80209 (www.waterforpeople.org) or The Worm Project, c/o Mosaic Mennonite Conference, 1000 Forty Foot Road, Suite 100, Lansdale, PA 19446 (www.wormproject.org) .

With deepest love and sympathy...Peter and I are so sorry to hear about Harry. We feel doubly blessed that we all had time together at Lukens gatherings and also Authority events. Harry was there for Peter way back when he started mowing lawns and was a grunt worker (Peter´s words) at North Wales.
Please know that you will be in our prayers.
