Harry A. Clifton Sr.

Mr. Harry Anderson Clifton, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully Monday morning (January 26, 2026) after a brief illness.

Harry was born in Tampa, Florida in 1934. He spent much of his childhood in Savannah before making Waycross his home. He was a graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah, and enjoyed a 34-year-long career with CSX following brief service in the National Guard. Harry had many passions in his 91 years, including collecting antique pottery, traveling to craft shows all over Georgia with his t-shirt designs, and turning his backyard into a citrus-tree filled oasis. He was the kind of man who believed anything worth doing was worth giving your whole heart. The majority of his heart was reserved for the family he surrounded himself with. He was a devoted husband to his sweetheart of 67 years, and he could often be heard serenading her in his signature off-key voice. He raised four children, whom he loved dearly, and upon becoming a grandfather, he would go out of his way to tell anyone who would listen about the joy they brought him. He lived for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and that was apparent in the way they loved him back. He was a sucker for boiled peanuts, a DK's BBQ sandwich and DQ banana split, and a hot summer day in the pool. Harry was a member of First Baptist Church in Waycross. He will be remembered as a creative soul, an avid storyteller, and a true family man.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Clifton, as well as his parents, siblings, and his beloved "Auntie" and Uncle Tommy.

Survivors include his four children, Tommy (Lisa) Clifton of Waycross, Harry "Bubba" Clifton, Jr. of Woodbine, Marty Clifton of Blackshear, and Christie (Gene) Nevil of Shellman Bluff; two grandchildren, Amanda (Skyler) Callender of Big Rapids, Michigan, and Clint Clifton of Hortense; and eight great-grandchildren, Josh, Hudson, and Emmie Robin Callender of Big Rapids, Michigan, Crosby Clifton of Blackshear, KK and Easton Jones of Waycross, Kaden Roell of Marietta, and Charley Mathews of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Harry will be laid to rest alongside his wife during a small graveside service at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
