Harry Farrar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home - Ruston on Feb. 11, 2026.
Harry Joe Farrar, Capt. US Air Force retired, of Ruston, LA passed away at age 94 on Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Bradenton, FL.

Harry was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on January 4, 1932. He graduated from Ruston High School and La Tech with a bachelor's degree in business administration. During the Korean War he joined the US Air Force, after which he came back to Tech for his degree and US Air Force ROTC commission before returning to the Air Force. He enjoyed a 20- year career in the Air Force as an Electronic Warfare Officer on B-52 bombers including two tours in Southeast Asia with 66 combat missions to Vietnam.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1973 and moving to Ruston, Harry and his wife founded Ruston Trophies and Locksmith until they retired again in 2000. This began a life of travel (mostly on their Honda Gold Wing motorcycle) to all 50 states, all of the Canadian Provinces, the Panama Canal and 33 countries. Travelling was the highlight of their lives.

Harry was a dedicated conservative Republican serving on the LA Republican State Central Committee and the Lincoln Parish Republican Executive Committee for about 20 years. He was also an active member of the VFW and American Legion including serving as the local commander of both.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Overton Farrar; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Farrar; and his brother, R.W. (Tom) Farrar Jr.

He is survived by sons, Harry Farrar Jr. (Suzanne) of Bradenton Florida and Gary Farrar (Diana) of Ft. Lauderdale Florida; daughters, Brenda Kauppinen (Paul) of Lake Worth Florida and Linda Warnat of Etowah Tennessee; grandchildren, Rachel Runyan, Brandon Ringo, Cameron Ringo, Erica Warnat, and Tyler Warnat; and great- grandchildren, Beau Runyan, Abigail Runyan and Parker Warnat.

Harry's ashes will be interred next to his beloved wife in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ruston, LA.
