Harry Iverson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Minot on May 6, 2024.
Harry S. Iverson, 94, Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at an Assisted Living Facility.
Harry was born April 15, 1930, the son of Sam and Christine (Brandvold) Iverson, in Hesper. He was raised on a farm in the Arne township area southwest of Maddock. He attended Hesper school for two years and then the family moved to Maddock where he graduated from Maddock High School in 1947. He then attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton from 1947 to 1949, majoring in electronics.
He returned to Maddock and worked for Bell Telephone and the Bureau of Reclamation. From 1952 to 1954 he served in the Army in the Signal Corp at Ft. Monmouth, NJ, and a year in Italy. Upon discharge he returned to Maddock and was employed at Mildes as a radio and TV repairman.
In 1957 he returned to the Bureau of Reclamation as a survey crew member and soil sampler in the Maddock and Harvey area.
On August 16, 1957, he married Helen Wiest of Harvey.
In November of 1957 he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration where he worked in electronic systems for 32 years before retiring in 1987. During this time he worked in Jamestown, Minot, and Sidney, MT. Upon retirement, they returned to Minot.
Helen passed away September 19, 2021.
Harry was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He volunteered for the Lady of Grace Food Pantry for almost 25 years.
Harry was a man of many interests and talents. He was musically gifted and self-taught on many instruments, including piano, guitar, mandolin, cornet, violin and saxophone. In his younger years he played in bands at many barn dances across Benson County. When older, he played his instruments with the songs on the radio or along with records for his own enjoyment. He was also known to play piano with his young grandchildren next to him. He had a patient ear for his grandchildren. Through his love of electronics, he spent many hours at his workbench at home tinkering with anything electronic and fixing TV's for friends. He built the family's first color TV, along with a record player and amp.
In retirement he decided to pick up a paintbrush and learn how to paint pictures. His favorite portraits were of his wife. His cherished art pieces of landscapes and barns decorated his home and the homes of his children and grandchildren. He also loved to document his life with photography, and his family is grateful for those memories. He was an avid reader, enjoying reading about history. Hence, he knew all of the hard crossword puzzle answers! He loved to travel, and summers were for family vacations. In retirement Harry and Helen took many trips, and for 14 years they spent their winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. A favorite memory about Harry is his quiet sense of humor and quick wit that kept his family and friends chuckling.
A special time with Harry and Helen was the backyard summertime happy hour with any family and friends who stopped by. Cheers to you, Harry!
