Capt. Harry James Beecham, III, MD Obituary

Born in Norfolk Virginia to Harry J. Beecham, Jr. and Ruby Mae Beecham on 01/10/1948. Eldest brother to William Gary and Allen Randle Beecham. Captain Harry James Beecham, III, MD (Better known as just Jim) Passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
He was the kind of man who was always learning, improving, and growing. Attending Asbury College, Wilmore, KY 1966-1970 BA Biology and Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA 1970-1974 earning his MD. Dr. Beecham practice medicine in Maryland and Pennsylvania where he also worked with the CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer and was involved early in the original investigation and identification of Legionnaires Disease epidemic in Philadelphia. Upon joining the Navy in 1982, he learned to fly and continued his medical career, stationed in 15 countries throughout his 22 years of service. His extensive work in infectious disease, saving countless lives no doubt. Dr. Beecham retired from the Navy in 2004 as Captain
Jim was diagnosed with terminal illness in August of 2017 and spent the past 5 years traveling everywhere Norma wanted him to go, connecting deeper with his family and faith. We will remember his radio voice, soulful singing, and mischievous blue eyes. Jim had passion for his family and friends; and a love for reading, writing, and a good murder mystery. He was a gentle and loving man, up to his very last breath.
Survived by wife of 32 years, Norma Beecham and brother Dr. Allen Randle Beecham. Daughters, Jana Beecham and Jocelyn Jennings. As well as Thomas Elkins, Douglas Elkins, Timothy Elkins, Robert Crousore, and Nicole Diestler; grandchildren: Marquez, Mathilda, Kacie, Eliza, Shawn, Keira, Jimmy.

Pallbearers: Dr. Allen Randle Beecham, Brent Beecham, Thomas Elkins, Douglas Elkins, Timothy Elkins, Marquez Elkins.
Officiating will be Rabbi David Cohen-Henriquez

Police escort to Barrancas National Cemetery begins at 10:30 sharp (you must be at the Synagogue to join the procession line to be allowed on base)
11:00 Committal Services at Barrancas National Cemetery
Reception afterwards at B nai Israel Synagogue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to B'Nai Israel Synagogue or the charity of one's choice.
