Danville – Harry Carl Mentch, 76, of 94 Grubb Hill Road, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Danville on August 21, 1948 to the late Harry and Dorothy (Dresher) Mentch. He graduated from Southern Columbia Area High School in 1966. He served in the United States Navy.
On July 27, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shamokin, he married Louise R. Hoffman, who survives. Together they shared 56 years of marriage.
He was the proud owner and operator of his construction business and was known as a craftsman, who knew how to build a house people loved to call home.
Carl loved the water and spent many years, entertaining family and friends boating in and around Annapolis, Maryland
He enjoyed finding good places to eat and sharing a meal and drink with family and friends. He was particularly fond of the regularly scheduled Friday afternoon safety meetings.
He was known to be hardheaded, strong-willed, and said exactly what was on his mind. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by a son, Jarrod A. Mentch and his wife, Laura of Danville; granddaughter, Ella Loretta Mentch; sister, Mary Alice Clark of SC; brother, William E. Mentch and his wife, Cheryl of DE; brother-in-law, Peter Shaffer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a son, Chapin James “C.J.” Mentch; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Ray Y. and Evelyn E. (Milbrand) Hoffman; two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Shaffer, and Myrtle “Mitzi” Carl and her husband, Ronald; sister-in-law, Jane Vacca and her husband, Frank; and brother-in-law, Marvin Clark.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11:00 am with John Shaw, officiating, at Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Northumberland County Veterans Association, Attn: Ryan Miller, 322 N. 2nd Street, Sunbury, PA, 18701, Memo: Memorial for Harry Carl Mentch Northumberland Co.
