Harry F. Ross, Jr.
Aiken - HARRY F. ROSS, JR., 96, husband of 55 years to the late Evelyn Denning Ross, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Anchor Acute Care.
A native of Buffalo, NY, Harry was a son of the late Harry F and Katharine Robertson Ross.
He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Machinist Mate, serving aboard several destroyer escorts including the USS Chatelain DE 104, participating in the capture of the U505 German submarine in June 1944. After discharge he continued in the United States Naval Reserve in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes. He returned home to Buffalo, met and married Evelyn in 1967. After retirement from FMC Corporation, they relocated to Aiken in 1987 to be near family and joined Millbrook Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his beloved Evelyn in 2020, and sisters, Norma Ross, Eleanor Jerman, and Edith Abendschein.
Survivors include Katherine A. Klingensmith, among other nieces and nephews. Harry and Evelyn were well cared for and loved by many including their MBC family, Hitchcock Place, Anchor Rehab, and Regency Hospice. On their behalf, thank you for your loving kindness for them.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday morning, June 15th at 9 o'clock in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bill Howard III officiating.
