Harry Lane Walter Sr. of Lumberton formally of Bladenboro passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born on December 16, 1919 in Rock Hill, S.C., moving to Bladenboro at an early age. In 1949 Harry Lane founded Walane Gas Company, now operated by his son Lane. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, serving as a Deacon and Treasurer of the Sunday School Department. He loved playing golf and watching Carolina sports, especially basketball. Harry Lane was also a recipient of the Rotary Club's distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was preceded in death by his loving first wife Edna Lou Moore Walter, mother Rozilla Hester Walter, his father Adam Scott Walter Sr., grandparents Lawrence and Kate Hester and his brother A. Scott Walter. He is survived by his second wife Rebecca Britt Nance Walter, son Harry Lane Walter Jr. and wife Mary Jo, daughter Gloria Jean Walter-Tatum, six grandchildren: Jason Walter and wife Lindsey, Matt Walter and wife Emily, Buster Jordan, Karen Jordan, Leighanne Tatum Smith and husband Chris, Katie Tatum and husband Brett Connor, eight great-grandchildren: Sam Walter, Tabitha and Dustin Hair, Summer And Buster B. Jordan, Ben and Alyssa Warwick, James Smith and two step great-grandchildren, Justin and Ashton Smith, and one great-great grandchild, Jaydin Jordan. He is also survived by a special niece, Peggy Walter Kilpatrick and her children Karen, Buddy, Mark and wife Catharen and one grandson Josh. Harry Lane was a loving Daddy, Papa, and uncle. He had many friends and golfing buddies and he will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 1:00-2:45 pm at First Baptist Church of Bladenboro followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow the services in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Bladenboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, P.O. Box 176, Bladenboro, NC 28320, or Lumberton First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 838, Lumberton, NC 28358.
