Harumi Murakami Oki passed away on 10/14/2025 at the age of 99 in Sacramento, California.
Harumi, who went by Haru, was born in Stockton, California on April 3, 1926 to Ei Odawara Murakami and Fukuichi Murakami. Her life was interrupted during World War II when she and her family were incarcerated at Rohwer Japanese Internment Camp in McGehee, Arkansas. She attended and graduated high school while in the camp. Haru married John Satoru Oki on December 15th, 1951, in Sacramento, California. A lifelong farmer, Haru also worked as a library assistant for Sutter County after her son began high school. She was involved in many cultural organizations including Marysville Buddhist Church, Club 100, and Sutter County Farm Bureau.
Haru is preceded in death by her husband, John S. Oki, parents Ei and Fukuichi Murakami, sister Irene Murakami Matsuoka, brothers Satoru Murakami and Kazuto Murakami.
Harumi is survived by her son Hajime James Oki and daughter-in-law Lynn Thull Oki, grandsons Matthew Kaichi Oki (and granddaughter-in-law Cassandra Lopez), and Jason Hikaru Oki, sisters Toshiko Murakami Masuoka, Yoshie Murakami Tamura.
Memorials may be given in her memory to Club 100, 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans - Clubhouse Office, 520 Kamoku Street, Honolulu, HI 96826.
