It was over 65 years ago that I first met Harvey and thus there are a myriad of memories I could share that have had lifelong impacts on me. One thing we shared is a love for Hank Williams´ songs and singing. I don´t remember when or how I became aware that Harvey and Grace were active square-dancers, but whenever I hear Hank Williams" songs or see square-dancing, my mind conjures up images of Grace and Harvey square-dancing even though I never saw them do so in person. Personally, of more significance is that he always made me feel accepted as an individual without judgement by his words and actions. From loaning money for a house down payment decades ago, to calmly accepting a surprise Christmas day wedding at a judge´s home at 612 Love Lane in Danville, California, and then accompanying us on a one-day honeymoon road trip to Monterrey, California, to just this past August when he skipped his usual daily trip to his house in Buffalo to stay at Allan´s and Mary´s place when he knew Annika and I would be coming to pay a visit; his actions spoke for him. But all the other decades of my memories of Harvey pale in comparison to one; that was, on his and Grace´s last wedding anniversary day together, he came dressed in suit and tie to stand silently beside his dying life partner Grace´s bedside. No words were needed, his lifelong loving commitment resounded.

Grandpa Harvey will be greatly missed. He was always kind, loving and generous and I enjoyed hearing stories about daily life, catching up on the weather and the farm. Growing up, I enjoyed the visits with Grandma Grace and Grandpa in Washington and a special memory is when we visited Mt. Rainier National Park and went hiking. It was always very special to visit MN in the summers and go on daily walks together. I am so grateful for these memories and will miss HOB very much. He lived a long, wonderful and full life.
