Haskell Ratliff

1939-2025

"You can't help but smile when you think of him-and that's the kind of legacy worth leaving."

-Anonymous

Haskell Ratliff, affectionately known as "Hack" age 86, of Catlettsburg, KY, passed peacefully on September 20, 2025, at King's Daughters Medical Center.

Hack was born on a winter day in 1939, on January 22nd. He was the beloved son of the late Birdie Hunt and Emera Ratliff. In 1989, he met the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful life and a loving family.

Hack was natural entrepreneur and had a keen mind for business. He ran a successful dry-cleaning company and worked in the industry with pride and dedication until his retirement. His work ethic was matched only by his heart.

Hack was a proud member of the American Legion. He found joy in being by the water. Hack loved the fight of fish on the hook. He enjoyed building model trains and sharing stories with friends and family.

To know Hack was to love him. He had a rare gift for connection and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His big personality, quick wit, and kind heart made it nearly impossible to stay upset with him. That was just Hack! He was charming, spirited, and deeply loved.

Hack was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He leaves behind a legacy that will shine on through his family for many years to come.

Hack leaves behind his cherished wife, Phyllis Kinser Ratliff, devoted son Gregg Bybee and his wife Cheryl of Centerville, TN, a host of special grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, one brother Ercel Ratliff and his significant other Christie of Boyd County, KY, and one sister Drucilla Chaffin. Also surviving are many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Hack is preceded in death by his children, Donna Carroll, Vicky, David, and Scotti, one brother Bufford Ratliff, one sister-in-law Pat Ratliff, and one brother-in-law Dee Chaffin.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Neal Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Hack Ratliff.
