Hattie May (Barrow) Chance, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.

Born on Tilghman Island, MD, on November 21, 1934, she was daughter to the late Henry L. and Dorothy (Harrison) Barrow.

Hattie dedicated many years of her life to her work at Rite Aid and WSFS. She was a devoted member of New Castle Methodist Church, where she remained active in her faith community until she was no longer able. An avid Phillies fan, she especially enjoyed watching their games in her later years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elizabeth Barrow; her daughter, Diane Lawler; sons-in-law, William Lawler and Charles H. Spicer III; her sister, Iva Menton; and her brother, Henry Barrow, Jr.

Hattie is survived by her children, Betty J. Spicer, Barbara A. Chance (Nancy), and Richard A. Chance (Deborah). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Beth (Gavin), Robert Jr., Ryan (Brittany), Samantha (Alex), Sara, Marc, Valene, and Alexa (Donny). She also leaves behind cherished great-grandchildren: Gavin Jr., McKenzie, Robert III, Isabella, Kiernan, Maverick, Emerson, Chloe, and Carter.

All services will be held privately.
