DEACONESS HATTIE LUCILLE ALSTON SILVER was born to the late James Alston and Laura Williams Alston on April 19, 1928, in Halifax County, North Carolina, and was one of eleven children. She departed this earthly life and peacefully entered her heavenly home on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at her home in Hollister, North Carolina, in the presence of her loving family.
Hattie accepted Jesus Christ during her early life and joined the Lee's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in
Littleton, North Carolina. Active involvement in the church was her passion, and she served as Chair-person of the Deaconess Ministry, Pastor's Aide, Sunday School Secretary, Sick Committee, Hospitality Committee, and Treasurer of the Missionary Ministry. Hattie remained a faithful and dedicated member. She LOVED the Lord and Lee's Chapel.
Hattie received her formal education in the Halifax County Public School System and attended Terrapin Elementary School and McIver High School in
Littleton, North Carolina.
On February 5, 1947, Hattie was united in marriage to the love of her life, William Haywood Silver. This union was blessed with seven children, four girls and three boys. They made their home in the Tabron Community. Even after Haywood's death on June 16, 1990, she remained the "Matriarch" of Tabron School Road.
Hattie enjoyed people. She took those to church and to doctor's appointments who did not have transportation, visited the sick and shut-ins, and cooked a hot meal for anyone. Her lemon meringue pie was her signature dessert. Her Motto: "If I can help somebody as I travel along the way, then my living shall not be in vain."
Hattie was employed with the Halifax County School System in Child Nutrition. She served as Manager at the former Eastman School until her retirement after more than thirty years of loyal, dedicated service.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hattie was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, and Jordyn; her siblings: Delores, Plummer, Nelson, Roxanne, Mary, Bettye, Eva, Nick, Juanita, and Celestine; and her son-in-law, Joseph Daniels.
