The Reverend Hazel Correll Bennett, widow of the Reverend A. Nelson Bennett, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Wesley Commons Health and Rehabilitation Center, Greenwood.

Born in Inman, SC, Mrs. Bennett was the eighth child of her parents, James Marshall Correll and Fannie Foster Correll. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings.

Mrs. Bennett was a retired clergy member of the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Pfeiffer College (now Pfeiffer University) and Boston University School of Theology and took additional classes at Erskine School of Theology. Her ministry included serving on staff in local churches (Trinity-on-the-Hill in Augusta, GA, the Methodist Church in Providence, RI and Inman United Methodist Church); on the executive staff of the United Methodist Board of Missions; in the Office of the Bishop of the Northern Europe Area; and on the college faculties of Pfeiffer College and Spartanburg Methodist College. When not employed, she generously gave her service as the wife of her pastor husband, as well as serving until recent years in elected positions on every level of The United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter, Laurie Bennett Roggenbuck of Grand Rapids, MI; her son, Robert G. "Bob" Bennett of Burton Center and Wesley Commons in Greenwood; three grandsons, Joe Roggenbuck (Danielle), Andy Roggenbuck (Stephanie) and Steven Roggenbuck; and a great grandson, Julian Roggenbuck. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, who she always enjoyed visiting with at the annual Correll reunions, and was blessed to have her niece, Dorothy, help care for her during her last few days, and her nephews, Lewis and Scott, who always organized her special birthday celebrations.

A Service of Death and Ressurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church, Greenwood, with the Rev. R. T. Bowling and the Rev. Jim Correll, her nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:30-11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church (operating fund), 211 N. Main Street, Greenwood, SC 29646 or by visiting www.mainstreetgreenwood.org.
