Hazel M. Millway passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at her home in Troy, Virginia, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born on June 15, 1935, in Goochland County, Virginia. Her parents were Munsey and Blanche "Helen" McCloud. In addition to her loving parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Bernice Proffitt, Rosa Mae Kidd, Linwood Mac McCloud, Billy McCloud, Evelyn Bottoms; son, Ernest "Buddy" DuVall, Jr.; son-in-law, Ray L. Proffitt; and grandchild, Annette Thurston.
Hazel is survived by her husband, John Millway; and her only living sister, R. Ann Proffitt. Hazel and John were married December 14, 1979, and they just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. They had nine children to raise together as two families that merged into one. There was Virginia Proffitt (late husband Ray L. Proffitt), Ernest "Buddy" DuVall (wife Libby DuVall), David M. DuVall (wife Kendall), Elvis DuVall (wife Sharon), James "Jimmy" DuVall (companion Delores Johnson), Donna Millway, Brenda Thurston, Lisa Patterson (husband James "Jim" Patterson III), Susan M. Bywaters (husband Ricky).
Hazel's and John's family grew from nine children with sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and four great, great-grandchildren. With love and God's blessing, Hazel's family continues to grow.
Hazel loved quilting and bluegrass music. She retired from General Electric in Charlottesville after over twenty years of service.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville, Virginia, from 2-3 pm. The service will follow at the funeral home.
