May 22, 2023 Hazel Betschart of Yelm WA passed away peacefully at Rosemont Assisted Care.
Hazel was born in Tacoma WA February 6, 1928. On her 6th birthday her parents, Vina and Gilbert Warner, moved the family by horse and wagon to the Bald Hills in Yelm to a 100-year-old home on 80 acres. Hazel attended grade school at Lacamas school in the Bald Hills and then graduated at Yelm High School in 1945. Hazel married Emil Betschart from Roy WA September 12, 1945. They had 2 children, Ron & Frank, while living in Parkland WA. They purchased an 80-acre farm in Roy in 1949, where they had two more children, Dave and Bob. Later on, Renate came into our lives when she was 15 years old. Hazel and Emil along with the children worked very hard at managing the dairy farm. Hazel was right in there with the rest of us milking cows, feeding, and working the garden. Hazel and Emil moved to Paterson Lake after semi-retiring, that is Emil could not stay away from the farm. It was in his blood to work. After Emil's passing on August 17th, 1987, Hazel married John Nowak and he died 20 years later. Hazel moved from Paterson Lake to a Parkland retirement park. In 2016 Hazel moved into Kings Manor, an assisted Living Center and then moved to Yelm at Rosemont Assisted Care.
Hazel is survived by her 4 sons Ron, Frank (Nancy), Dave (Sue) and Bob (Teresa) along with daughter Renate Davis (Gregg). She is also survived by 54 grandchildren and great grandchildren along with 2 great, great, grandchildren.
Hazel was a beautiful person inside and out. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was so kind and passionate. Hazel had God on her side, went to church regularly, when she could, and prayed often. She will be forever missed.
