Hazel Pierce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Memorial Park, and Crematory on Mar. 12, 2024.
Mrs. Hazel Herd Pierce, 82, was born in Tuscaloosa, AL, on June 14, 1941, to the late W.L. and Wynnell Herd. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She married her first sweetheart, John Pierce, on June 14, 1957, and devoted herself to him for almost 67 years after meeting through a pen-pal relationship.
For many years, her primary focus was raising her family and caring for hundreds of other children. She later became the owner of Frame Outlet for over 33 years and framed thousands of projects for customers over the state of Alabama. She retired in 2022. Her love for cooking and hosting numerous family and friends for a homecooked meal was a joy. She was known for her strong Christian faith and knowledge of the Bible. She was a lifelong member of Cottondale Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School at all levels for over 60 years, arranged meals for bereaved families for over 50 years, and exercised her love of music by singing in the choir and teaching children's choirs. She loved sending cards for special occasions and encouragement to countless people. Her love of reading extended throughout her life and she enjoyed sharing her books with others. She was also known for her memory of detail in any conversation and found great joy in long conversations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Carolyn and Clara; and her in-laws, Arthur and Mildred Pierce.
Hazel is survived by her husband, John Pierce; children, Paul Pierce, Jimmy Pierce (Marian), Rebecca Hill (Danny), Tim Pierce (Yvonne), and David Pierce (Stacey); seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Betty Sellers, Janice McCoy, and Barbara Files; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Cottondale Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 11 am with Dr. David Bailey and Rev. Dan Arsenault officiating. Interment will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Tim Pierce, Kerry Ellis, Gordon Walker, Kenny Tingle, John McElroy, and Corry Glenn.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Cottondale Baptist Church and especially the Joy Sunday School Class, former employees of Frame Outlet, neighbors of Norris Circle, caregivers Rosemary Dent and Donna Acker, employees of Amedisys Home Health, and a host of employees at DCH Northport Hospital who cared for her on her last day.
